ScreamInn Media’s Summer 2025 Movie Preview: Movies You DO NOT Want to Miss!
The summer movie season is upon us, and 2025 is shaping up to be a scorcher at the box office. This summer, from blood-soaked reboots and long-awaited sequels to sci-fi spectacles and heart-pounding thrillers, there is something for every kind of cinephile. Whether you're a scream queen or a superhero fanatic, here’s what to keep your eyes on from May through August.
May: The Season Kicks Off with Thrills & Chills
While a few solid horror flicks are quietly creeping onto streaming this weekend to welcome the start of May, it’s next Friday—May 9—that marks what we’re officially calling the real beginning of the 2025 summer movie season. Why? Because Clown in a Cornfield is coming to town… and Frendo is bringing bloodshed with him. Based on Adam Cesare’s hit slasher novel, this twisted tale of small-town secrets and killer clowns is set to ignite the season with a scream. The horror community has been buzzing since its SXSW premiere, and with Eli Craig (Tucker & Dale vs. Evil) at the helm, we’re expecting sharp satire, brutal kills, and a modern slasher that actually delivers.
Summer’s here—and it’s wearing face paint.
Clown in a Cornfield (May 9) - In theaters
The young adult slasher novel by author Adam Cesare is preparing to make a splash on the big screen in Clown in a Cornfield, and Eli Craig (Tucker & Dale vs. Evil) directs the adaptation. The plot centers around teen Quinn and her father as they relocate to Kettle Springs, a small middle-of-nowhere town with already simmering tension when the Baypen Corn Syrup Factory mascot, Frendo the clown, begins to slaughter. Katie Douglas (Ginny & Georgia), Carson MacCormac (Shazam!), Aaron Abrams (Hannibal), Will Sasso (The Three Stooges), and Kevin Durand (Abigail) lead the cast in this teen slasher.
Final Destination: Bloodlines (May 16) - In theaters and IMAX
Death is back and more brutal than ever. This prequel promises to tie the original franchise’s mythos into a fresh, blood-curdling origin story. This prequel isn’t just a nostalgic cash-in—it’s a bold, blood-curdling expansion of the mythos that shaped a generation of horror fans. Early whispers from test screenings suggest the film features one of the most jaw-dropping opening disaster sequences in the entire series—something fans will dissect for years to come. With a fresh cast, inventive kills, and a tone that strikes a vicious balance between suspense and sheer terror, Bloodlines looks poised to resurrect the franchise in a big way.
Forget cheating death—this summer, death cheats you.
Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning (May 23) - In theaters & IMAX
After nearly three decades of defying death, outrunning villains, and redefining the modern action movie, Ethan Hunt’s journey is coming to an end—or so we’re told. The Final Reckoning marks the epic conclusion to the Mission: Impossible saga, promising a send-off packed with high-stakes espionage, emotional weight, and the kind of pulse-pounding spectacle only Tom Cruise can deliver. Once again, Cruise pulls off gravity-defying stunts that have to be seen to be believed—because, yes, he actually did that. But beyond the explosions and breakneck chases lies a more personal thread: Hunt confronting the ghosts of his past and the cost of a life lived in shadows.
This isn’t just another mission. It’s the end of an era—and possibly the most dangerous game Ethan Hunt has ever played.
Fear Street: Prom Queen (May 23) - Streaming on Nextflix
The halls of Shadyside High are soaked in blood once again. In Fear Street: Prom Queen, the beloved R.L. Stine book gets the full slasher treatment, this time swapping supernatural curses for a more grounded—but no less deadly—whodunit. When a popular prom queen hopeful turns up dead just weeks before the big dance, the tiara becomes a bloodstained target. One by one, the competition begins to disappear, and it’s clear that someone is willing to kill for the crown. With sharp '90s nostalgia, razor-edged teen drama, and a killer who knows all the right moves, this entry in the Fear Street saga is pure prom-night carnage.
Forget the slow dance—this prom ends in screams.
Lilo & Stitch (May 23) - In theaters
Ohana means family. As if May 23 wasn’t busy enough with films, Disney is banking on that sentiment to bring audiences back to theaters with its live-action reimagining of Lilo & Stitch. Set against the lush backdrop of Hawaii, this heartwarming (and occasionally chaotic) story follows a lonely young girl and the destructive alien experiment she calls her pet. The new adaptation promises updated visual effects, a more grounded emotional tone, and a deeper cultural focus that honors the original's roots while expanding its heart. But don’t worry—Stitch still causes absolute mayhem. Whether you're revisiting a childhood favorite or introducing it to a new generation, this is one remake that could genuinely tug at the heartstrings.
Aliens, Elvis, and emotional damage—welcome back to paradise.
